The precise localisation of the Gnom.Byz. in the transmission-context of the Byzantine florilegia is based on the studies in the first volume, which deal with the genesis of the collection, the direct and indirect transmission, the sources and the significance of the Gnom.Byz. for the history of education. The translation and the commentary (sub-volume II.2), which is divided into the sections „Tradition”, „Language” and „Content”, explain the approximately 400 sentences and apophthegms in detail. Das Buch erschließt in einer textkritischen Edition (Teilband II.1) nebst Apparaten (kritischer Apparat, Deszendenten, Parallelen, Similien, Quelle) überlieferungsgetreu zwei Redaktionen des frühbyzantinischen Spruch-Korpus Gnomologium Byzantinum und ersetzt die älteren Teileditionen Wachsmuths (1882) und Schenkls (1889). Die präzise Verortung des Gnom.Byz. im Traditionskontext der byzantinischen Spruch-Korpora fußt auf den Studien im ersten Teilband, die die Sammlungsgenese, die direkte und indirekte Überlieferung, die Spruchquellen und die bildungsgeschichtliche Bedeutung des Gnom.Byz. zum Gegenstand haben. Die Übersetzung und der Kommentar (Teilband II.2), welcher sich in die Rubriken „Überlieferung“, „Sprache“ und „Inhalt“ gliedert, erläutern spruchspezifisch die ca. 400 Sentenzen und Apophthegmen. 03 00 The early Byzantine corpus of sayings named Gnomologium Byzantinum has survived in around forty Greek manuscripts from the 10th to 18th centuries with widely divergent compilative forms. This polymorphism reflects the intentions of teachers, who selected, rearranged, adapted and reformulated the sayings according to their interests and target groups. The analysis of the genesis of the corpus, from the first compilation (redaction A) through numerous intermediate stages to the more recent, well-preserved redactions (A2 and B2), reveals its significance as a document of educational history, as it served as a medium for teaching ethics, language and rhetoric in Byzantium for around a millennium. <br/>This is the first time that the corpus of sayings, which is divided into an alphabetically and a thematically organised half, has been examined in its original redactional form and analysed from a philological, manuscriptological, source-analytical and educational-historical perspective. The edition of redactions A2 and B2 replaces the older partial editions by Curt Wachsmuth (1882) and Heinrich Schenkl (1889), which provide the thematic (the so-called „demokrito-epiktetische Sammlung“) and the alphabetical (the so-called „Florilegium Ἄριστον καὶ πρῶτον μάθημα“) half of the corpus isolated and in a fictional, nowhere transmitted compilative form, as the early division into the branches A and B was not taken into account. The separate edition now allows to retrace the transmission paths of the approximately 400 sentences and apophthegms with unprecedented precision, according to the different redactional stages.<br/>Thanks to an innovative method that combines compilative structural analysis with textual criticism, the whole polymorphic history both of compilative forms and of the text from the first compilation down to the most recent textual witnesses can be presented stemmatically. The complicated indirect tradition of individual Gnom.Byz.-sayings in dependent collections can also be analysed in this way: In addition to the descendancy running via the Corpus Parisinum and its descendants (Maximus etc.), there is a hitherto unknown line of tradition that draws on a further, non-transmitted ‘universal gnomologium’ as an intermediary source. <br/>In addition to special observations on „tradition” (Ü) and „language” (S), the commentary also addresses the reader interested in intellectual history without knowledge of Greek with the section „content” (I) and the translation by explaining the content and context of each saying and establishing references to ancient philosophical traditions. Crucial are the four main sources, for which the origin from or, respectively, the mediation via a milieu described as „Pythagorean“ can be made probable. The genuinely neo-Pythagorean sources in particular provide important insights into ancient spirituality and mentality. Das frühbyzantinische Spruchkorpus Gnomologium Byzantinum ist in etwa vierzig griechischen Handschriften des 10. bis 18. Jahrhunderts mit stark divergierenden Sammlungsversionen überliefert. Diese Polymorphie reflektiert die Intentionen von Lehrenden, die das Sprucherbe entsprechend ihren Interessen und Zielgruppen auswählen, umstellen, adaptieren und umformulieren. Die Analyse der Korpus-Genese von der Erstkompilation (Redaktion A) über zahlreiche Zwischenstufen bis zu den jüngeren, gut erhaltenen Redaktionen (A2 und B2) lässt seine Bedeutung als bildungsgeschichtliches Dokument erkennen, hat es doch in Byzanz über etwa ein Jahrtausend als Medium des Ethik-, Sprach- und Rhetorikunterrichts gedient. <br/>Erstmals wird hier das Spruchkorpus, welches sich in eine alphabetisch und eine thematisch organisierte Hälfte gliedert, in seinem originären Redaktionszusammenhang betrachtet und philologisch, manuskriptologisch, quellenanalytisch und bildungsgeschichtlich erschlossen. Die Edition der Redaktionen A2 und B2 ersetzt die älteren Teileditionen Curt Wachsmuths (1882) und Heinrich Schenkls (1889), welche die thematische (sog. „demokrito-epiktetische Sammlung“) und die alphabetische (sog. „Florilegium Ἄριστον καὶ πρῶτον μάθημα“) Korpus-Hälfte isoliert und in einer fiktionalen, nirgends überlieferten kompilativen Form bieten, da die frühe Spaltung in die Überlieferungszweige A und B unberücksichtigt blieb. Die getrennte Edition erlaubt es nun, die Überlieferungswege der ca. 400 Sentenzen und Apophthegmen in vorher nicht gekannter Präzision, d.h. rezensionsspezifisch, aufzuklären.<br/>Dank einer innovativen Methode, die die kompilative Strukturanalyse mit der Textkritik verknüpft, lässt sich die polymorphe Sammlungs- und Textgeschichte von der Erstkompilation bis zu den jüngsten Textzeugen stemmatisch darstellen. Auch die komplizierte indirekte Tradition einzelner Gnom.Byz.-Sprüche in dependenten Sammlungen wird so analysierbar: Neben der über das Corpus Parisinum und seinen Deszendenten (Maximus etc.) verlaufenden Deszendenz existiert eine bislang unbekannte Traditionslinie, die sich aus einem weiteren, nicht-überlieferten ‚Universalgnomologium‘ als Mittlerquelle speist. <br/>Der spruchspezifische Kommentar wendet sich, über Spezialbeobachtungen zur „Überlieferung“ (Ü) und „Sprache“ (S) hinaus, mit der Rubrik „Inhalt“ (I) und der Übersetzung auch an den geistesgeschichtlich interessierten Leser ohne Griechischkenntnisse, indem er die Spruchweisheit erläutert und Bezüge zu antiken philosophischen Denktraditionen herstellt. Im Zentrum stehen die vier Hauptquellen, für die sich der Ursprung aus bzw. die Vermittlung über ein als ‚pythagoreisch‘ bezeichnetes Milieu wahrscheinlich machen lässt.
